There are only two known photos in existence of Cynthia Ann Parker, and this top features an embroidered interpretation of one that we find particularly moving. The photograph depicts her and her daughter, shortly after Cynthia’s re-capture by the Texas Rangers en route to being returned to her birth family; her hair is cut, a sign of mourning, and she’s feeding her daughter “Prairie Flower”, the only one of her children she was able to take with her. It’s a powerful image and we felt it needed to be paid homage within the Cynthia collection. In this interpretation, the image of her breastfeeding daughter was adapted to a traditional cradleboard, the ultimate sign of a mother’s love and protection for her child. The image is intricately beaded on a V-neck top in a pretty shade we call “desert sand”.
